Visit to Young Chang Korea & China - Brian Carman PDF Print E-mail

Recently I had the great opportunity to visit the Young Chang piano factories in Tin Jian, China and  Incheon City, South Korea where Wertheim pianos are manufactured today. John Martin (Piano Time) and Chris Whelan (Piano Technician) accompanied me on the visit to the factories to conduct final quality control inspections on the latest container of pianos destined for Australia. Wertheim pianos' high standards are maintained by the inspection process in which Piano Time is, to my knowledge, the only Australian importer conducting final quality control inspections on pianos.

For years working in the piano industry I went with many preconceived notions of how pianos are actually being built. I thought that there would be a lot of robotic type machinery; many pre-assembled components with very little supervision of the pianos construction actually taking place. In fact what I found were specialist piano technicians working together over an incredibly well organized production line hand building these magnificent pianos. The Wertheim pianos are 100% manufactured and assembled with all components produced by Young Chang to guarantee consistency and quality in the overall manufacturing process. Wertheim Pianos are made to the highest standards at an assembly plant that I discovered is also making pianos for some of the most famous European and American piano companies in the world.

The manufacturing process is thorough from beginning to end from the natural seasoning of timber in the lumber yards, the string winding rooms where the strings are being manufactured and wound from high quality German Roslau piano wire, felt assembly where the hammers and piano felts that have been milled from fine quality European wool and even sound board production where the soundboards are being produced using the finest quality Alaskan Sitka Spruce, to the assembly of the final piano case and finishing polishing touches. The complete process culminates in a finished product of world class standards that is by far the best value for money piano in the Australian marketplace today.
