Asymmetrical Acoustic Taper

Every nuance in the shape of a soundboard can change a piano's tone dramatically. Applying Young Chang's knowledge of over 50 years of engineering and design experience, Young Chang platinum soundboards are asymmetrically tapered, subtly curving the edge to a custom designed profile for each model. Young Chang's secret geometric design allows the soundboard enhanced flexibility, very much like the diaphragm of a speaker. The resulting tone is richer and more vibrant from the hardest strike in the bass, to the lightest touch in the treble.


Acousti-cut and Tunneled Bridges

The bridge is the link between the strings and the soundboard. It is the only point of direct contact between the two. It bears more than 1,000 pounds of pressure from the strings and translates their vibrations into the body of the instrument.

Young Chang's work has resulted in a Tenor Bridge that has a superior design. Vertical laminatino provides strength and stability while directing energy into the soundboard. Tapered and raised bridge sections, at calculated points, allow the soundboard more freedomto vibrate, creating a rich, full tone.


Asymmetrical Curved Rib Crowning

Perfect balance is not always in the middle. The convex shape of the soundboard is a vital element of a piano's design. The ribsthat channel sound energy and help the soundboard hold its shape are equally important. The Young Chang specially designed ribs are asymmetrically curved which means that their apexes support the contact points of the bridges, rather than the centre of the soundboard. This design allows superior energy translation throughout the instrument's range, allowing greater volume and sustain.


German Quality Piano Wire

German piano wire has a long tradition of providing beautiful, pure sound with a distinct musical character. Using hgh quality German copper, the bass strings for Young Chang Platinum Edition pianos are carefully crafted on-site. Additionally, all Young Chang grand pianos use Roslau premium wire in both the tenor and treble sections of the piano harp.
