Rim Construction and Bracing
The outer rim is made in two halves using up to 7 layers of veneers,
laminated crosswise with water resistant glue. The inner rim is
laminated of at least 14 layers of select beech. These parts are
carefully stored until a uniform moisture content of 8% plus or minus
1.5% is reached. The thickness of the inner rim is 40-46mm, the
thickness of the outer rim is 22-27mm according to the size of the
instrument.
Blüthner Upright Pianos are made as carefully as the grands, with the following features:
A strong construction with five or four back-posts that pick up the
tension of the strings, assisting the iron frame to withstand the
enormous pull of approximately 18 tons. Thus a durable tuning of the
instruments is assured.
Inside the factory - Blüthner's unique instruments are created with the dedication and expertise of their piano makers.
Only the finest timber, carefully selected from all over the world
and seasoned over many years, is used as the basis for the outstanding
quality of Blüthner instruments.
A gentle drying and maturing process ensures that the sensitive
membranes of the cells in the wood remain intact, so that vibrations
can be conducted without significant loss of energy.
Using traditional craftsmanship, the solid rim is assembled in a robust
tension-free design that enhances resonance and forms the firm
foundation for the world famous Blüthner soundboard.
Grand and upright pianos consist essentially of three subassemblies.
Blüthner coordinates them with one another in mutual harmony to
guarantee the legendary Blüthner sound.
